Roussanne
A white French variety, the most refined of the renowned Roussane /Marsanne blend.
Difficult to cultivate, as it is highly sensitive, when it is grown correctly it produces wines rich in body, with intense floral and spicy bouquets. In warm climates it brings out tastes of honey and pear. Over the last few years its cultivation in the Rhone River Valley, the cradle of Roussanne, has spread to the new world and, with brilliant results, Tuscany and Spain. On Crete we still only encounter it in a few territories, at altitudes exceeding 400m and clearly north facing to ensure cool conditions; results are quite encouraging.
