Mourvedre
Although originally from Catalonia, Spain, where it is call Monastrell, presently Mourvedre is more closely associated with the South of France, where it participates in the production of the usual table wines of the region. Its gifts are tannic wines with a generous body, characterised by a bouquet of blackberries and liquorice with clear pepper notes.
Proximity to water and, particularly, the Mediterranean Sea creates ideal conditions for ripening. It ripens rather late; in Crete it has been cultivated over the last 15 years with very interesting results in multi-variety compositions.
